Layman of the Royal Navy intended for a new edition, 3 vol., 36 engraved plates and 9 maps, all plates and text trimmed and mounted in early nineteenth century volumes, copious ink and pencil annotations and corrections throughout, in various hands, one or two leaves in manuscript, leaf on vegetable production possibly removed (vol. 1), one or two blind-stamps, occasional marginal soiling, nineteenth century calf, rebacked and recornered, a little rubbed, 4to, n.d.
⁂ The title for vol. 2 is dated 1703, with the others undated. The paper for each volume is watermarked WR (King William IV).
An interesting and unique item that was intended for the production of a new edition of Dampier's voyages, and includes early nineteenth century maps, as well as those originally used.
