Description

Zola (Émile) Germinal; or, Master and Man. A Realistic Novel, first English edition, initial advertisement f., half-title, 24pp. uncut publisher's catalogue at rear dated April 1886, occasional light spotting or finger-soiling, light browning to endpapers, ticket to foot of rear pastedown, original pictorial cloth, gilt, very slight shelf-lean, some light rubbing with a few very small nicks to spine ends and some wear to lower corners, still overall a very good and bright copy, [cf. Sadleir 3377], 8vo, Vizetelly & Co., 1885.

⁂ Often considered Zola's masterpiece and one of the most significant novels in the French tradition. Sadleir's copy is, unlike this, illustrated, dated 1886 and with a May 1885 catalogue, but in the same binding as our copy.
