Naval & Military.- Elphinstone (George Keith, Viscount Keith, naval officer and politician, 1746-1823) Autograph Letter signed to the naval officer Sir S[idney] S[mith], 1p. with conjugate blank, sm. 4to, ?Camp, 31st August n.y., [c. 1797-1802], probably written at some time during the blockade of Cadiz, "I had the honour to inform you yesterday I knew of no Capitulation I continue in the same state of ignorance I mentioned to Sir Rich Bickerton to be prepared in event of a capitulation to send an officer in the harbour to prevent Plunder and Confusion and the instant there is an opening either the Geni or me will give Sir Richard early notice...", remains of album f. on verso of last f., folds, browned; and c. 15 other letters, including: Sir Samuel Baker, Lord Charles Beresford (2); George Bingham Lord Lucan, Lord Roberts etc., v.s., v.d. (c. 15).
