Description

Milne (A.A.) Pre-Proof Autograph manuscript for The Christopher Robin Birthday Book, 3ff., 100x150 mm, 3rd July 1930, pencil and ink notes and drawings of Winnie-the-Pooh and Eeyore, folds, light finger-soiling.

⁂ A remarkable pre-proof manuscript in the earliest stages of The Christopher Robin Birthday Book as it was being prepared for publication.

Instructions are provided regarding the book's layout and typography, with a note reading "Study this lay-out for general style, weight of type...". Quotes are given from The House at Pooh Corner as well as sketches of Winnie-the-Pooh and Eeyore.

The Christopher Robin Birthday Book, published in 1930 by Methuen, featured quotations by Milne and illustrations by Shepard complied from When We Were Young, Winnie-the-Pooh, Now We Are Six and The House at Pooh Corner. It was part of a series of Pooh-related merchandise published by Methuen around this date, including 'The Very Young Calendar 1930' and a set of Christmas cards.
