Description

Palmer (Samuel) The Cypress Grove, etching, a delicate impression on cream laid paper, with lettering removed, printed by F.L. Griggs, with Dover's House Press stamp to lower margin, platemark 134 x 188 mm (5 1/4 x 7 3/8 in), sheet 272 x 393 mm (10 3/4 x 15 1/2 in), even toning lines and browning from sun exposure, otherwise minor surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1880-1883, but printed 1924]

⁂ Printed in 1924 in an edition of only 20 impressions. The etching, begun by Samuel Palmer and completed by his son Herbert, originally had two lines of verse in the lower plate border, and was issued for the 1884 small paper edition of An English Version of the Eclogues of Virgil by Samuel Palmer, with Illustrations by the Author.
