Charles I (King of England, Scotland, and Ireland, 1600-49).- James VI and I (King of Scotland, England, and Ireland, 1566-1625) Capitulos hechos entre el ser[enisi]mo Rey de la gran Bretana y Christianissimo Rey de francia en el casamiento de Madama Maria Henrieta con el Principe de Gales, manuscript in Spanish, in a cursive hand, on paper, title and 13pp., slightly creased, unbound, folio (c. 305 x 215mm.), [Spain], [1625].
⁂ A summary of the terms of the marriage of Charles, Prince of Wales, heir to the throne, to Henrietta Maria, daughter of the king of France. The terms of the treaty on the French side were conducted by Cardinal Richelieu. The Spanish government would have been very interested in the terms of the treaty for two reasons. The first was that Charles had undertaken a private journey to Spain with the Duke of Buckingham in 1623, in an effort to marry the Spanish Infanta. Secondly, after the Spanish had rebuffed the attempt, Charles turned to an alliance with France. With his marriage to the daughter of the king of France, Charles signalled a new coalition of European powers against the might of Spain.
