⁂ Salzmann (1744-1811) was an educational reformer and founder of the progressive academy at Schnepfenthal (still in existence). Mary Wollstonecraft was an enthusiastic supporter of Salzmann's ideas and translated his Moralische Elementarbuch of 1783 as Elements of morality; for the use of young persons, 1790. Salzmann later published her A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in German in 1793.
