⁂ An interesting association copy of this Surrealist work.
Philippe Soupault (1897-1990), a French writer and political activist. He was instrumental in founding the Surrealist movement with Andre Breton. His WW1 poems are in the present volume.
Inscribed to Jacques Benoist-Méchin (1901-1983), a French far right politician and writer, known for collaborating with the Germans under the Vichy regime. He was also a patron of Shakespeare and Company and used his connections to secure the release of Sylvia Beach from a spell of internment. He befriended James Joyce and made an early French translation of Molly Bloom's monologue from Ulysses.
