Maugham (William Somerset) Strictly Personal, first trade edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "For Eddie, William S. writes his name" to front free endpaper, additionally signed by the author to title, Edward Wasserman's copy with his bookplate tipped-in, marginal toning and some surface soiling, original black cloth, spine gilt in compartments, spine ends and corners rubbed and bumped, dust-jacket, spine lightly browned and chipped, rather rubbed, nicks and a few tears, [A60b], 8vo, New York, 1941.
⁂ The bookplate was designed by Marie Laurencin, a French painter and printmaker and a significant figure in the Parisian avant-garde. She was associated with the Cubist movement and the Section d’Or, and was part of the artistic circle surrounding Pablo Picasso. Laurencin is recognised as one of the few prominent female artists within Cubism.
