Maugham (William Somerset) The Gentleman in the Parlour, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "For Sybil [sic] from her grateful & constant friend W. Somerset Maugham" to front free endpaper with bookplate of Sibyl and Arthur Colefax below, original cloth, spine tips and corners a little chipped and frayed, [Stott A39a], 8vo, [1930].
⁂ A good association copy, inscribed to Maugham's neighbour, the socialite and interior designer Sibyl Colefax (1874-1950). Despite knowing each other well, Maugham here still managed to misspell Colefax's name, something he acknowledged in a later inscription (see following lot).
