⁂ This poetry collection comes from the library of Edward Lowbury, the pioneering medical bacteriologist, pathologist, and published poet, and Andrew Young, the father of Lowbury’s wife, Alison, who was also a poet. Among his notable achievements was his collaboration with John Babb on a filtration system that reduced airborne infection in open wards. Lowbury was equally distinguished as a poet, publishing seven collections between 1936 and 1985, his literary work reflecting the same originality as his scientific achievements.
