Hardy (Thomas) The Trumpet Major, 3 vol., first edition in book form, [one of 1000 copies], lacking half-titles, bookplate of Charles J. Dickins, vol. 3 title with short closed tear to upper-margin, occasional very light spotting and the odd light mark, lightly browned, heavier to endpapers, contemporary red half morocco, vol. 3 horizontal tear to backstrip with upper portion peeled away from upper joint, spines and extremities rather worn, [Purdy 31], Smith, Elder & Co., 1880; and others, most 19th century literature, including the first edition in book form of Vanity Fair, 8vo & small 4to (c.25)

⁂ The first mentioned Hardy's epic novel set during the Napoleonic Wars, first published in monthly instalments in Good Words, from January to December 1880.
