Description

More (Hannah).- Kennett (Basil) Romae Antiquae Notitia: Or, The Antiquities of Rome, fifth edition, engraved portrait frontispiece, title with engraved vignette, 13 engraved plates, of which 6 folding, folding engraved map (very short tear to foot of fold without loss), advertisement f. at end, ink note "This Book belonged to the Father of Mrs Hannah More...& was one of the few which he preserved when he first came out of Norfolk; the rest of his collection being lost in their carriage from thence more than 120 years since. Given to Mary & Margaret Roberts by their kind affectionate & beloved friend Hannah More when in her 82nd Year. February 1826" to front free endpaper, folding plate at C8 with tear into image but no significant loss, trimmed at head, a few times just shaving headlines, the occasional damp- or other stain, some light browning and spotting, later cloth, spine browned, little rubbed, [ESTC T81984], for T Child...and R. Knaplock, 1713.

⁂ Mary and Margaret Roberts were appointed as More's literary executors. Their brother William, a lawyer and journalist, took on the role of More’s official biographer and editor, with Memoirs of the Life and Correspondence of Mrs. Hannah More published in 1834.
