Playbill, Hiring fair.- New Theatre Coventry. On Thursday evening June 3d, 1790, will be presented the Comic Opera Love in a Village...in Act first will be a Statute fair for hiring servants with a dance by the characters, playbill, printed recto only, contemporary ink inscription verso, a few holes, creased, spotting and staining, lightly browned, 299 x 193mm., [Coventry], N. Rollason & J.W. Piercy, 1790.
⁂ Unrecorded. A 'Statute fair', also known as a 'Mop fair' was an event at which labourers and servants were hired for a fixed term. The perspective employees carried an object signifying their particular skill, and those without specific skills would carry a mop head.
