Mary Stewart (1916-2014) celebrated for pioneering the romantic suspense genre and reimagining Arthurian legend in her acclaimed Merlin series (see lot xxx). Born in Sunderland, she taught Anglo-Saxon literature at Durham University before beginning her successful career as a novelist and becoming one of the highest-earning novelists of her generation, earning the reputation as "the Queen of Suspense".
