⁂ First edition of this biographical work by Hays, novelist and friend of Mary Wollstonecraft. Most of her subjects are historical figures, but one also finds a number of writers, including Mary Astell, Aphra Behn, Juliana Berners, Hester Chapone, Elizabeth Haywood, Catherine Macaulay and Frances Sheridan.
