⁂ Isaac Barrow (1630-1677), Euclide's Elements became the standard English language text on geometry for the next half-century. Self-taught in geometry, he later became master of Trinity College, Cambridge and as a mathematician was regarded by his contemporaries as second only to Isaac Newton.
