⁂ Sir George Murray (1849-1936), played a significant role in drafting the People's Budget in 1909 which proposed a series of taxes aimed at redistributing wealth and funding social welfare programs. These proposals were met with strong opposition from the House of Lords, who rejected the budget, leading to a constitutional crisis that resulted in the Parliament Act of 1911.
