Brahmanism.- Werdin (Johann Phillip) Systema Brahmanicum, liturgicum, mythologicum, civile et monumentis indicis musei Borgianis Velitris..., first edition, engraved title vignette of Ganesh, 30 engraved plates, of which 1 folding, title with damp-stain and ink library stamps, occasional spots but generally clean, modern paper-covered boards, 4to, Rome, Antonio Fulgoni, 1791.

⁂ An important work, which introduced Europe to the Hindu Pantheon, by Werdin, an Austrian Carmelite who lived on the Malabar coast from 1776-1789. Divided into three parts on liturgy, mythology and the genealogy of the gods, and concluding with a description of the Indian caste system. Also included is a scarce account of the Indian art in the Museo Borbonico of Naples.
