⁂ Among the signatures are those of Sir Hubert Parry, composer and Director of the Royal College of Music, and Tobias Matthay, a leading piano teacher in London. Included on the acknowledgement page is the following statement: "A number of your friends consider it meet to mark the completion of your fiftieth year of active musical life in England by some demonstration of personal regard and esteem....the signatures represent a very small proportion of those who would have liked to join in this address."
