Australian painter.- Drysdale (Sir George Russell) "Tass Drysdale". The Paintings of Russell Drysdale, first edition, with two original ink drawings of a recumbent man signed 'Tass', and one dated 1978 presented to front pastedown, total size for both drawings together approx. 80 x 102 mm (3 1/8 x 4 in), one drawing made of two card sections, presented onto pastedown, some spotting and surface dirt, bookplate of Richard Smith [a director at Arthur Tooth & Sons Gallery], original dustjacket, spine with chips and some splitting, 4to, Ure Smith, 1951
⁂ The two drawings are inscribed by Drysdale, 'The Man from Snowy River, I really don't believe in this sort of thing but knowing that you hold the same views I can't resist this - a Merry Xmas to you both from Tass D.', followed beneath by a later ink drawing & inscription by Drysdale, again depicting The Man from Snowy River, 'Dear Dick, I think he took up residence on this log about 1957 - but I do know he's been there ever since. Knowing your views, which I share, I hope he stays there - Tass 1978'.
