Ireland.- Loftus (Nicholas, Irish politician, 1592-1666) & Loftus (Dudley, orientalist and jurist, 1618-95) Papers relating to Nicholas and Dudley Loftus, including: Mellifontstown in theIr lease cald by the names of Ballinimona, Rathloe, Rathrye, Ballivardick, Banshemagh in the Liberty of Kinsale - Martin Farly ten £ ye state for this yeare, n.d. [17th century]; 4 legal declarations relating to a dispute over a pearl necklace and rings owned by Nicholas Loftus: "Memorandum: That I Doctor Dudley Loftus was present in my own house I withall earnestness did indea[vour] to perswade my uncle Nicholas Loftus a few days before [the] marriage of his eldest son, that he would bestow on his said son Sr Nicholas Loftus Knt: A necklace of pearls, and two diamond rings which he then had, but the said Nicholas Loftus the father did absolutely denie and refuse to give them, only he said that he was willing to lend them... and to have them againe whensoever he desired them... whereupon I doctor Loftus desired my wife and sisters not to p[ersuade] his said uncle any further therein... Dud: Loftus", 4th August 1666, together c. 35 documents, accounts and one letter, most relating to financial matters, all manuscripts on paper, folds, most with tears and holes, some slightly affecting a few words, slightly browned, v.s., v.d., 1641-66 (c. 35).
