Fröbel System.- [Album of paper construction inspired by Fröbel’s educational theories], 10ff., 46 examples of paper-weaving, folding, and pricked and stitched paper, a little browned, some foxing, contemporary ink signature of J.Bernaert to first leaf, loose in binding, contemporary red boards, upper cover elaborately decorated in gilt around onlaid panel depicting two children in a boat (chipped), a little rubbed, 4to, [late 19th century].

⁂ Friedrich Wilhelm August Froebel (1782-1852) was a German educationist who first established the kindergarten. He believed that early education was necessary for a child’s development and introduced the idea of play-activity. At the time his educational system was considered dangerous because of the freedom allowed to the children to express themselves as they wished.
