⁂ The first item is a rare collection of designs for lace. Bartko was a designer who specialised in patterns for lace work and other crafts and in the 1930s he worked with textile designers in the Irish linen trade. Plauen was a lace-making centre from the early 19th century and later on developed a machine-made lace, called Plauen lace, which was awarded the grand prize at the world exposition in Paris in 1900. This copy comes from the firm of Pare and Pilsworth, lace manufacturers in Nottingham from 1920 to the 1940s. WorldCat records only 3 copies.
