Jephson (Robert) Roman Portraits, A Poem, in Heroick Verse, first edition, engraved portrait frontispiece and 19 plates, light soiling to half-title, damp-staining to lower blank corner, generally light, some very light browning, contemporary calf, rebacked, spine with red leather label, covers quite worn, Henry Baldwin, 1794 § Hayley (William) Ode, Inscribed to John Howard, Esq. F.R.S. Author of "The State of English and Foreign Prisons", second edition, engraved frontispiece by Bartolozzi, lightly offset, [ESTC T74915], for J. Dodsley, 1771, bound with The Triumphs of Temper; A Poem, first edition, half-title, for J. Dodsley, 1781, bound with 3 others by Hayley, together 5 works in 1 vol., book-label of J.O. Edwards, ink inscription "Beckford -: 6 :-" to front free endpaper, some light browning and very light foxing, attractive contemporary tree calf, covers with gilt Greek-key border, spine gilt and with terracotta leather label, chipping to spine head, little rubbed with corners bumped and worn, upper joint split and lower starting at ends but both holding; and others 18th century, a Patingham printed edition of the Odes, Epodes and carmen seculare of Horace (1753) and Warton's The History of English Poetry in 4 vol., 4to (7)

Jephson (1736-1803) was an Irish dramatist and politician. In the second mentioned, a later loosely inserted manuscript note states "Beckford Sale...lot 851, Fourth Day 12 Sept. 1823, 6s to Clarke".
