⁂ The first mentioned including the first 19 parts (of 26) of Collodi’s famous puppet story. This is the first appearance of Pinocchio, which was issued serially in the children’s magazine Giornale per i Bambini from 7th July 1881 until January 1883, first under the title 'La Storia di un Burattino’ and later as ‘Le Avventure di Pinocchio.’ Collodi originally intended to end the story by having Pinocchio hanged in the eighth instalment in October 1881, but after pressure from enthusiastic young readers (and anxious publishers) he continued the story under the title ‘La Avventure di Pinocchio’ in February 1882. This volume includes the ‘Posta dei Bambini’ from the November 1881 issue informing readers that Pinocchio survived the hanging and that more stories about him will be appearing soon.
