⁂ Eric Earle Shipton was an accomplished English mountaineer, achieving a number of first ascents throughout the world. He was involved with most of the Mt. Everest expeditions during the 1930s and led the 1951 Reconnaissance Expedition on Mt. Everest climbing for the first time from Nepal with a young Edmund Hillary.
