Choderlos de Laclos (Pierre-Ambroise-François) Les Liaisons Dangereuses, 4 vol. in 2, half-title to vol. 3 and 4, woodcut head and tail-pieces, vol. 4 H3 and H4 bound in wrong order, small ink ownership inscription to titles, few light stains, foxing and browning to varying degrees, a few marginal tears, one with neat tape repair, some small worming to lower-margin, Regi Patriaeque Fidelis and Ashton-Gwatkin Barton Library Pagham bookplates on pastedowns and front endpapers, contemporary calf with gilt borders, upper joints cracked and lower starting at ends, spines quite worn and lacking labels, bumped and rubbed, [Brun, Edition I], 12mo, Amsterdam & Paris, Chez Durand, 1782.

⁂ Told entirely through letters, this novel explores the decadence and moral corruption of the French aristocracy just before the Revolution, touching on themes of power and seduction in a way that was daringly modern for its time.
