Fielding (Henry) The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling, 4 vol., the odd light stain, browning, generally light, spotting, hinges reinforced with buckram, vol. 2 with contemporary newspaper cutting about the book laid down bearing the date 1762 inscribed in ink, front pastedowns with ink ownership name in a contemporary hand, ink ownership inscriptions to front endpapers dated 1865 and 1751 to vol. 1 only, contemporary speckled calf, recornered and rebacked in calf, spines with red morocco labels, extremities rubbed and bumped, a few scuffs, [ESTC N508488], 12mo, printed for A. Millar, 1750.

⁂ One of the earliest and most influential English novels, notable for its innovative narrative structure and comic style. Touching on themes including morality and social class, it offers a vivid portrait of 18th-century society and helped shape the development of the modern novel as a literary form.
