Larkin (Philip).- Chalmers (Patrick R.) Kenneth Grahame. Life, Letters and Unpublished Work, first edition, Philip Larkin's copy with his ink ownership inscription to front free endpaper dated 16th April 1935 to front free endpaper, plates, lacking final endpaper, losses and rubbing to final pastedown, a couple of marginal finger-soiling marks and spots, faint spotting and browning to endpapers, original cloth, rubbed at joint, spine ends and corners, quite toned, small surface mark to upper cover, uncut, edges toned, 8vo, 1933.
⁂ Philip Larkin's copy, who would have been just 12 years old in 1935, possibly the earliest signature of the poet. It was typical of Larkin to use animals (toads in particular) as metaphors for labour and working life.
