Provincial Theatre Playbills.- [Collection of c.280 theatre playbills for provincial playhouses], few contemporary ink inscriptions, few repairs or portions laid down, occasional light soiling or foxing, some occasional fraying, creases, chipping and tears sometimes with loss to text, all loose, v.d., [c. 1783-1898].

⁂ An excellent collection of playbills, providing a rich insight into popular theatre across England, in the late 18th century and throughout the 19th century. Theatre playbills for playhouses based across England and in Dublin, including New Theatre, Bridgnorth, and Theatre-Royal, Birmingham, Coventry, Exeter, Hull, Manchester, Newcastle, and Plymouth. Performances include 'Hamlet', 'School for Scandal', 'Tom and Jerry', 'The Death of Capt. Cook', with a few playbills mentioning the popularity of some plays in renowned London theatres, such as 'How to get Rich', Just in Time', and 'Prisoner, or, the Female Volunteers'.
