Tarleton's History "Of the Campaigns of 1780 and 1781, in the Southern Provinces of North America"..., first edition, half-title, with blank leaves a4 and M3, few leaves roughly opened causing small marginal loss, particularly first few ff. of Sig. L, some soiling and very light spotting, light browning to endpapers, hinges nearly broken but just holding, uncut in original boards, some staining, rather worn, [Sabin 43431], 8vo, Printed for the Author, and sold by F. Faulder [& others], 1787.

⁂ Scarce first edition of Mackenzie's critique of General Sir Banastre Tarleton's account of his command during the American Revolutionary War, in which "some facts have been withheld, and some mutilated; while others are raised to a pitch of importance, to which, if historical justice had been the author's object, they are by no means entitled". A variant imprint has R. Jameson listed first among the booksellers. We can trace only three other copies at auction in the last 25 years, not in the original boards.
