Marolles (Michel de) Tableaux de Temple des Muses..., first edition, additional engraved pictorial title (top edge folded), 60 engraved plates by Bloemaert and others after Abraham Diepenbeek, some browning and spotting, a few paper repairs at edges, gutter cracked at upper hinge, later morocco-backed boards, leather red but boards now faded to brown, joints cracked but holding, wear to extremities, [Brunet III, 1443; Hofer No.44], folio, Paris, Nicolas l'Anglois, 1655.

⁂ "One of the handsomest illustrated books of its time" (Hofer). First edition of this fine series of plates after Diepenbeek's designs, illustrating Michel de Marolles' adaptations of classical fables, which later inspired Picart and others. The plate depicting Pan spying on nymphs by Bloemart, is referenced in Philip Hofer's 'Baroque Book Illustration' (1970, No.44, p.30).
