Ravilious (Eric) Original woodblock of engraving of cockerel, for the Golden Cockerel Press prospectus for 1933, boxwood, labelled "E.R.2 on verso, 215 x 170 x 25mm., preserved in board slip-case, [1933]; with a copy of the printed prospectus, 4to (2)

⁂ Very rare. We have been able to find only two original woodblocks by Ravilious to have appeared at auction, this one in 1978 and a similar but slightly smaller block for the Spring prospectus for 1931, in these rooms in 2016 (Forum Auctions, Auction No.1, 13th July 2016, the property of Anthony Dowd, lot 121 £4000). The block was re-used with amended date for the Spring 1935 prospectus.

The prospectus also announces the change of ownership of the Press from Robert Gibbings to Christopher Sandford, Francis J.Newbery, and Owen Rutter.
