Reliquary.- Reliquary of 12 Saints, set within a highly decorative arrangement of rolled paper in scrolls and other shapes stained gold, encompassing each relic set upon a small white fabric flower and accompanied by small typed label, the whole surrounding a central oval ?watercolour depicting two hearts recalling Christ's Passion and Annunciation (bleeding or pierced with lance, encircled by thorns or white roses, surmounted by cross or white lily), all against a red fabric backdrop, housed within an oval wooden frame with beveled glass, now sealed at rear with later tape but original Cardinal's red wax seal still intact and visible, France, [c.1850s].
⁂ A very attractive arrangement of 12 relics pertaining to a huge variety of saints, both male and female, including martyrs, theologians and clerics, some ancient while others more recent from the Renaissance era, including: Saints Clare of Asissi, Felicity, Faustina, Francis de Sales, Francis Jerome, Benedict, Benedict Joseph Labre, Joseph ['ep'; presumably a bishop], Theophilus, George, Vincent and Bl. John Grande. Due to historical breadth of saints, all relics presumably tertiary, while the names in Francophile form and John Grande's beatification in 1853, suggesting arrangement in mid 19th century France.
