Description

Earthquake.- Church of England. An order of prayer upon Wednesdayes abd Fridayes, to remove Gods wrath from vs, threatened by the late horrible earthquake, to be used in all Parish Churches and Chapels within the province of Yorke, title within woodcut border depicting personifications of the virtues of Faith and Humility, woodcut decorative initials, colophon to E3v, lacking A1 and E4 (?blanks), frayed, affecting part of title border (with rudimentary repair) and text in places, water-stained, some damp-staining, lightly browned, disbound, Christopher Barker, 1580. sold not subject to return.

⁂ An unrecorded variant with considerable textual differences (cf. STC 16512 & 16513, often found imperfect). Here A3r has the catchword 'O Lord' in black letter and has the heading 'The order of Prayers for Wednesdayes and Fridayes.'. Might our copy have had a sig. F with a separate report of the earthquake as with other variants?
