Bowden, first edition, half-title, portrait frontispiece of Ada Lovelace, plates, 2 folding tables, diagrams, the odd ink correction / annotation, occasional spotting or lights staining, original beige cloth, some spotting and staining, mostly to spine, which is also slightly faded, dust-jacket, spine with label removed from foot (affecting word 'Pitman') and ends chipped, upper joint short split at ends, a few short tears, corners worn, little soiled, rubbed, Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, Ltd., 1953; and a first edition of Science News 31, 1954, with 'Solvable and unsolvable problems' by Turing, large & small 8vo (2)

⁂ The first mentioned includes Turing's 'Digital computers applied to games' (Chapter 25, pp.286-310), which discusses chess and draughts.
