Bells & Torture.- Maggi (Girolamo) De Tintinnabulis & De Equuleo Liber, engraved additional pictorial title, title in red and black, 21 engraved plates or full-page illustrations, 3 folding, marginal tears on frontispiece, slight browning, contemporary vellum, rubbed, a little worn at extremities, 12mo, Amsterdam, Henry Wetstein, 1689.

⁂ The author was a military engineer who was captured by the Turks in 1571 while working on fortifications at the fortress of Famagouste in Cyprus. While in prison in Constantinople he wrote these two treatises, one on bells, the other on torture.
