Chile.- Collection of material relating to Chile, including: ALs from Lieutenant Lord Cochrane to his father the Earl of Dundonald, 3pp. with address panel, on board HMS Barfleur, off Gibraltar, 12th February [1799], "Ld St Clements remains out & I am the eighth Lieut with the second in command who has no power to promote...", two small tears where opened; ALs from Lieutenant Colin Campbell to James McKinnon Campbell, 2pp. with conjugate blank and address panel, on board the Chilean warship Indepencia, 18th July 1822, "I left the English service, being last masters mate of the Oppossum Sloop of Warr. I have not met many Vicissitudes of fortune since that time. Suffice it to say that I am at present a Lieut. in the Service of Chile", small tears along fold at head; and a small quantity of others, including: 100 Escudos note and stamps, v.s., v.d. (sm. qty).
