Description

Voyages.- Labillardiere (Jacques Julien Houton de) Voyage in search of La Pérouse, 2 vol., first edition in English, 45 engraved plates, one large folding map (short tear at gutter), advertisements at end vol. 2, previous owner's ink inscription to front pastedowns and occasional marginal notes, spotting, abrasion marks and old repairs to pastedowns, contemporary calf, rebacked, rubbed, bumping to corners, 8vo, 1800.

⁂ Provenance: Ink inscription dated 1865, "Henry L. C. Robinson, Lieut: R. N., H.M.S. Esk, Sydney. I had this sent out from Edinburgh by book post ...", with occasional annotations in the same hand throughout.

H.M.S Esk was in Australia in 1865, presumably after taking part in the 'Tauranga Campaign' in New Zealand the previous year.
