Aesop. Aesop's Fables with his Life: in English, French and Latin, additional engraved pictorial title (dated 1665), engraved arms of the dedicatee William Cavendish, Earl of Devonshire, frontispiece portrait of Aesop and 31 plates by Thomas Dudley & Francis Barlow after Barlow (including the 'indecent' plate 17 usually lacking), and 110 engraved illustrations by Barlow, made-up copy with several leaves from other copies (including plate 17 and Fable CIX), soiled and stained, tears to portrait of Aesop and E1 of Vita affecting image/text (repaired), several leaves frayed and defective at lower outer corner with slight loss (repaired), old ink inscription "James Bond 1765" to verso of engraved title, modern manuscript bookplate of Eric Sweet with drawing of fox in pen & ink to front pastedown, modern morocco-backed vellum, red morocco label, preserved in modern cloth folder and slip-case, [Wing A703], by H. Hills jun. for Francis Barlow, 1687; and a set of the engravings for the Life of Aesop, 30 engravings only (plate 17 supplied in photocopy), each tipped into paper aperture folder, loose in modern cloth folder and slip-case, [1687], folio; sold not subject to return (2)
