Ravilious (Eric).- Hennell (Thomas) Poems, out-of-series copy on Basingwerk Parchment (from an edition limited to 50) signed by the author and artist, wood-engravings by Ravilious, printer's library copy with label and number in red ink to front pastedown, original cloth, t.e.g., others uncut, very slight wear to head of spine, 8vo, 1936.
⁂ An excellent copy of this scarce item. Thomas Hennell (1903-45) was an artist and writer who succeeded Ravilious in his post of war artist in Iceland following Ravilious's death there in 1942. Ravilious was in a plane which disappeared while itself searching for a missing plane and, poignantly, the final wood-engraving in the book shows an aeroplane (re-used from 'A Young Airman' in Martin Armstrong's 54 Conceits. Hennell died in Indonesia in 1945 having been captured by nationalist fighters.
