⁂ First edition, from a 'special limited edition printed for private circulation only'. The Veitch family ran the largest group of plant nurseries in Britain in the 19th century, operating from their principal nursery in Chelsea (frontispiece). James Vietch, fifth generation horticulturalist and plant collector, ran the nursery until his early death in 1907. This work includes 1,500 plants, as well as biographies of "plant hunters" working around the world in the family's employ.
