Description

Carter (Angela) Fireworks: Nine Profane Pieces, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author "for Edward with love from Angela" on front free endpaper, additional inscriptions by the author "Feux d'artifices, incendies, incendaires". Baudelaire (who else)" and "1. Deux qualités littéaires fondamentales: surnaturalisme et inonie. 'Fusées', Baudelaire" on title, another quote in French on title of 'Flesh and the Mirror' in the author's hand, original boards, dust-jacket, edges a little creased and bumped, otherwise excellent, 8vo, 1974.

⁂ A lovely association copy, inscribed to her close friend Edward Horesh.

Quotes on the title from Baudelaire exemplify Carter's linguistic abilities (she spoke French and German) and perhaps some further influences.

After living in Japan, Carter moved to the city of Bath in 1973 and briefly stayed with the dedicatee, before finding an apartment of her own. This work was published during her 2-year residence in the city.
