Diplomatic immunity.- Wicquefort (van) (Abraham) L'Ambassadeur et ses Fonctions, 2 vol., first edition, woodcut printer's device on each title, occasional browning and some water-staining, a few marginal paper flaws, contemporary calf, rebacked with gilt spines by Bernard Middleton, a little rubbed, 4to, The Hague, Chez Jean & Daniel Steucker, 1681-80.
⁂ One of the best known works on the diplomatic service which was still in use in the 18th century. The Dutch-born author was an experienced diplomat, acting for the Elector of Brandenburg at Paris where he incurred the enmity of and was imprisoned by Cardinal Mazarin, and then at The Hague, where he became persona non grata after the assassination of the brothers De Witt. He makes a strong plea in this work for the full immunity of ambassadors.
