Maritime.- Navigation.- Seller (John) Practical Navigation, or an Introduction to the whole Art, 5 folding engraved plates and folding chart, woodcut diagrams and illustrations, lacking half-title with additional engraved title to verso, lacking pp.204-209 (although this seemingly printing error not recorded by ESTC, as text of 2D1v printed on 2C2v i.e. p.210 on verso p.203), title lightly creased, ownership inscription dated 1755 to head of B1, some ink smudges and corrections or marginal calculations, 2 small loosely inserted manuscript notes of nautical subject, Contents f. with short tear into text, A3 Table of Logarithms with loss to upper blank corner and very short tear into text, some browning and damp- and other staining, lacking free endpapers, ink notes and calculations to pastedowns, contemporary calf, small loss to spine foot, rubbed and worn, [ESTC N34628], for William Mount, and Thomas Page, 1739; and others on navigation, including the third edition of Robertson's Elements of Navigation in 2 vol. (1772), 8vo (12)

⁂ A rare edition; ESTC records only 5 copies, of which 2 in the UK. The two loosely inserted manuscript notes record course, distance, miles, latitude and longitude. One dated 1777 records leagues to "The Island of Corvo" and is with "Venus Frigate with a convoy to America" to verso. The other is dated Nov. 77 and records leagues to "Sandy Hook".
