Description

Northumberland.- Richardson (T.M.) Picturesque Views of the Architectural Antiquities of Northumberland, 14 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates (only, of ?20) by D. Havell and T. Sutherland after Richardson, some captioned as being coloured by B. Hunter, plus 4 etched plates and 2 further unrelated plates at end (one lithograph, one engraved, both on india paper), lacking engraved title, some plate imprints shaved, contemporary ribbed cloth, sunned, [Not in Abbey], large 4to, Newcastle and London, 1819-20.

*** Very rare. RBH records 2 copies only (1980 and 1959) plus a group of only 6 plates in 2012. Both copies called for 20 coloured aquatint plates plus the 4 etched plates; and neither had the engraved title, apparently called for in BMC. The plates here are extremely fine and include Alnwick Castle, Tyneworth Priory, Cullercoats, North Shields, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh Castles, Newburn, Dilston and Castle Gateway, Durham.
