Plinii Secundi Naturalis Historiae libri duo, in quorum priori quidem tractat de naturis piscium...Pauli Iovii De Piscibus, edited by Johannes Caesarius, collation: [*]4 A-Z a-p4, woodcut historiated initials, woodcut printer's device to final verso, occasional later ink marginalia and the odd line scored through in the Giovio section, first and last sigs. loose, foxing and staining, mostly light browned (heavier to sig. d), fragments from a manuscript commentary on Bede used in binding, lower hinge split, contemporary limp vellum, yapp edges, lacking ties, small chip to foot of upper cover, some staining, 4to (197 x 137mm.), Strasbourg, Jacob Cammerlander, 1534.

 

*** First Caesarius edition of this compilation of works on fish and fishing. Includes Oppian's long poem on fishing, Pliny's description of various fish and crustaceans, and Giovio's lists of fishes know to the Romans, some with cooking suggestions.
