Waugh (Evelyn) Black Mischief, uncorrected proof copy, one or two finger-soiling marks, original wrappers with title and expected publication date in ink to upper wrapper, lightly toned, shelf-lean, 8vo, 1932.
*** A rare proof copy of Waugh's third novel, drawing from experiences in Africa and chronicling a "satire on European notions of 'progress' imitated by an imaginary African nation" (ODNB). Waugh put it in a 1932 BBC radio broadcast as he worked on the proofs of Black Mischief: “Man’s capacity for suffering keeps pretty regular pace with the discoveries that ameliorate it”.
