*** Steinbeck's own copy of this celebrated short story cycle. Written in typical Steinbeckian prose, the interconnected stories chart the lives of families who relocate to a Californian valley. This was likely
part of the “incunabula” (March 13, 1953) or “bunch of junk” (November 19, 1956) that Steinbeck mentions sending to Joan and David Heyler over the years (see note to lot 120).
